The Importance Of Doing Your Research

Recently there was a whole Facebok thread started by Dr. Mitch Nur. It was all about the validity of the often used quote:

“Sound will be the medicine of the future.”

This has been attributed to the famous sleeping prophet, Edgar Cayce (1877-1945). Cayce was famous for being able to give readings to people, and also answer various questions on things such as the future, Atlantis, reincarnation, etc. while in a trance. Much of what he said was written down by a stenographer and is available in various books or on the web. You can check things out on the official Cayce website, Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.)

Edgar Cayce

Now Mitch was questioning the validity of this quote and wrote to A.R.E. to ask if they could find it in their archives and verify it. There reply to him was:

"Good Morning: thank you for your inquiry. I have researched the Edgar Cayce Readings and can find no reference to the quote on 'Sound will be the medicine of the Future.' There are many readings about music but nothing that I can find even similar to your reference."

I will admit to using a variation of this quote in past promotional materials and on my old website. I first came across it about 10 years ago, and while investigating it, I found it being used by many different sources—this alone does not verify or legitimize it—so I investigated further. I eventually found a source that featured a much longer quote (3-4 paragraphs) attributed to Cayce from which this one sentence was pulled. As I recall, everything seemed legit. Now I did not know of A.R.E. at the time, or I would have investigated things with them.

So what is the point here? We have a much used famous quote that may be a serious misquote, or even an outright lie originated by someone. And this is just the tip of the iceburg. How much of the quotes and information being used by people regarding Gongs, Singing Bowls, Bells, sound healing/therapy, various tunings, cymatics, etc. are incorrect or false?

Do Your Homework!

Don't just accept things as true and copy them off of any old website. The internet is amazing and a fantastic resource, but it's also full of a lot of BS, so you need to check your sources, always. And be prepared for things you currently accept as true, under further investigation, to be shown as false.

And thank you Mitch for your investigation into the truth.
